“Noel Next Door” Review: Hallmark Christmas Movie Unexpectedly Full With Real-life Modern Problems
Divorce due to infidelity (you will hear the word mistress more than once). Anger outbursts and personality changes caused by chronic pain. Threats to sue for the slightest thing. Character banning on social networks for spreading misinformation. Drinking, hangovers, and more. Yep, it is new Hallmark Christmas Movie called “Noel Next Door”.
But don’t be afraid it is still full of classic Hallmark holiday movie cliches and romanticization that we love so much. Only the problems the characters are dealing with have become more real-life and modern. This strange and unexpected blend for Hallmark makes it interesting to watch.
Of course, there are already Christmas rom-com based around real-life modern problems, movies like “Last Christmas”, “Love Hard”, “About Fate” etc, but this is new for Hallmark Christmas Movies.
And Hallmark have different approaches and aesthetics to it. There is a moment in “Noel Next Door” where the character tries to get drunk, and it looks rather fun than real or sad.
“Noel Next Door” is one of Hallmark’s attempts to make their holiday movie lineup more modern and diverse in different ways. This attempt looks promising.
According to the Hallmark Christmas Movie Schedule List 2022, we will see diversity in many of their new holiday movies. There will be released movies dedicated to Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. For the first time, we gonna see a Hallmark Holiday Movie focusing on an LGBT couple and even more.
Why watch “Noel Next Door”?
First of all, it’s a movie about people making mistakes, but are courageous enough to start a new chapter of their life with a sincere apology. The strongest relationships are the ones where all parties and their members are willing to apologize and forgive. This movie shows this very well.
Secondly, you just need to see how Hallmark is trying to modernize their Christmas holiday movies it’s own way, imping people’s real-life and modern problems, but still preserving halmarkiness.
